Green Drinks Calgary - Jan 22

I had a great time chatting with people at Green Drinks Calgary, held at the Vicious Circle on January 22. While I was a little late for the meeting (7:30 pm), I found that the party was still in full swing with a good 20-30 people.

The room was abuzz with the news of the agreement between MDI and Tata Motors to produce the aircar in India. However, I pointed out that the greatest enemy of energy efficiency is low energy prices. Note how in 1973, the OPEC Oil crisis motivated the auto industry to make compact cars. Notice again how, when a glut in the price of fuel caused prices in North America to drop, the best selling vehicle was the Sport Utility Vehicle.

By keeping energy prices artificially high, we reward consumers for making environmentally responsible choices to economically use that energy. Industry is rewarded for making energy efficiency choices available to their consumers.

The next Green Drinks Calgary is February 19. See you there!

Success is a habit

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.”
- Aristotle

I've been involved in elections and small 'p' politics almost all my life. I have found that my activity fluctuates between periods of complete inaction between elections and fevered, frenetic activity during elections. Not only is this stressful on my life and relationships, it also means the work that I do during an election is lost afterwards and the hard work that I do is for nothing.

This suggests that a different approach needs to be taken.
